Cos’è e come la eseguiamo

Ogni occhiale vintage che proponiamo è un occhiale usato o NOS (nuovo da stock vecchio) restaurato e riammodernato nel nostro laboratorio-officina ottica. Il primo passo è una valutazione iniziale sull’opportunità di riportare a nuova vita l’occhiale, ovvero se vi siano le condizioni accettabili perché l’oggetto possa ancora essere utilizzato con soddisfazione. Quindi, con perizia ed abilità, utilizziamo lavatrici ad ultrasuoni per la pulizia, macchine per la pressatura delle cerniere a caldo o con punzonatrice, saldatrici, frese, mini trapani, banchi di controllo assetto occhiale, viteria e minuteria per occhiali di ogni tipo. Il risultato di tanta esperienza e delle nostre attrezzature professionali di ultima generazione, è un occhiale riportato alle migliori condizioni possibili.

Prima fase: smontaggio completo dell’occhiale; viene smontato dalle viti, separate le astine dalla parte frontale, vengono sfilati i terminali, ovvero le parti in plastica delle astine in metallo, vengono svitati o sganciate le placchette dei naselli, vengono tolte le lenti presenti sia eventuali da vista che solari e l’occhiale tutto così smontato assieme alle viti viene riposto in un cestello singolo pronto per la seconda fase.


Seconda fase: l’occhiale viene lavato in una lavatrice ad ultrasuoni seguendo tre passaggi in successione di cui il primo è un bagno di sgrassaggio della durata di 8 minuti, il secondo un bagno detergente e pulente della durata sempre di 8 minuti e un terzo lavaggio igienizzante della durata di 16 minuti. Al termine di questa fase l’occhiale viene riportato alle migliori condizioni possibili, ovvero sia le montature in plastica sia quelle in acetato che quelle in metallo ripristinano la loro brillantezza, venendo così assicurata l’igiene dell’oggetto.

Terza fase: i processi qui si differenziano a seconda del materiale e delle condizioni della montatura. Le montature in acetato o in celluloide qualora dovessero presentare degli opacamenti vengono rilucidate con macchinari e prodotti per la lucidatura come furono al tempo quando vennero create. Per le montature metalliche vengono valutate le condizioni ed eventualmente vengono riplaccate con galvanica in oro/rodio/argento. In questa fase è importante la valutazione sul tipo di intervento da effettuare sulla montatura in quanto, interventi troppo invasivi potrebbero compromettere in maniera irreversibile i materiali che il tempo e l’uso potrebbero avere reso fragili.
Importante è anche preservare l’integrità dell’oggetto pur mantenendo qualche difetto che non ne pregiudichi l’utilizzo ma anzi ne valorizzi le caratteristiche di oggetto del passato riportato a nuova vita.

Quarta fase: l’occhiale al termine di questa procedura viene rimontato, eventualmente sostituta la viteria qualora si richiedesse il cambio, sostituite le placchette di appoggio e/o i terminali di appoggio delle orecchie con materiali quanto più possibile simili agli originali dell’epoca. Viene eventualmente raddrizzato e sistemato sul banco di prova in maniera da allinearlo e raddrizzare le parti che non dovessero presentarsi in assetto corretto.
L’occhiale così ricondizionato è pronto per essere indossato, conservato o collezionato dando così a questo oggetto del passato una seconda vita.

Riammodernamento: il riammodernamento è un passo successivo ed un’integrazione alla rigenerazione. Infatti viene riammodernato un occhiale che è stato già in precedenza rigenerato. Il riammodernamento consiste nell’applicazione di lenti estetiche o solari di ultima generazione con colorazioni, specchiature, curvature richiamanti la moda e le tendenze attuali.

What it is and how we make it

Each vintage eyewear we offer is used or NOS (new from old stock) eyewear that
has been restored and modernized in our optical laboratory-workshop.The first 
step is an initial assessment of the opportunity to bring the eyewear back to 
life, i.e. whether there are acceptable conditions for the object to still be
 used with satisfaction. Therefore, with expertise and skill, we use 
ultrasonic washers for cleaning, machines for pressing hinges hot or with a 
punching machine, welders, cutters, mini drills, eyewear alignment control 
benches, screws and small parts for glasses of all kinds. The result of so 
much experience and our latest generation professional equipment is eyewear 
brought back to the best possible condition.

First phase: complete disassembly of the glasses; is disassembled from the 
screws, the temples are separated from the front part, the terminals, i.e. 
the plastic parts of the metal temples, are removed, the nose pads are 
unscrewed or released, the existing prescription and sun lenses are removed 
and the all of the glasses thus disassembled together with the screws are 
placed in a single basket ready for the second phase

Second phase: the eyewear is washed in an ultrasonic washing machine following
three steps in succession of which the first is a degreasing bath lasting 8 
minutes, the second a detergent and cleaning bath lasting 8 minutes and a 
third wash sanitizer lasting 16 minutes. At the end of this phase, the 
eyewear is brought back to the best possible condition, i.e. both the plastic,
acetate and metal frames restore their brilliance, thus ensuring the hygiene 
of the object.

Third stage: The processes here differ depending on the material and condition
of the frame. If the acetate or celluloid frames show dulling, they are 
re-polished with machinery and polishing products as they were at the time 
when they were created. For the metal frames, the conditions are evaluated 
and eventually they are replated with gold/rhodium/silver galvanic. In this 
phase it is important to evaluate the type of intervention to be carried out 
on the frame as too invasive interventions could irreversibly compromise the 
materials that time and use could have made fragile. It is also important to 
preserve the integrity of the object while maintaining some defects that do 
not affect its use but rather enhance its characteristics as an object of the
past brought back to life.

Fourth phase: at the end of this procedure, the glasses are reassembled, 
possibly replacing the screws if a change is required, replacing the support 
plates and/or the ear support terminals with materials as similar as possible 
to the originals of the time. It is possibly straightened and placed on the 
test bench in order to align it and straighten the parts that should not be 
in the correct position. The reconditioned eyewear is ready to be worn, kept 
or collected thus giving this object of the past a second life. 

Refurbishment: Refurbishment is a next step and a supplement to regeneration. 
In fact, eyewear that has already been previously regenerated is refurbished. 
The modernization consists in the application of latest generation aesthetic 
or solar lenses with colors, mirrors, curvatures recalling current fashion 
and trends.
